Urban Icon's first blog!

Well this is exciting! Urban Icon takes its first step into the blogosphere! I'll be very honest here and tell you that I'm following the example of a number of businesses to use the blog as a Public Relations tool. Here's hoping it will be successful and that some readers find the blog interesting and useful!

We are a company which distributes exciting new products to hair salons. Our newest product, TheO, was launched in the summer and has unique induction heat technology which take rollers from cold to 130 degrees in less than 4 seconds.

It creates gorgeous looks, full of volume, body and movement. Users simply pop a roller in the pod and it's ready in less than four seconds. The rollers heat from the core out, so they're hot in the hair and not in the hand. The latest soft grip technology is used so pins aren't essential to hold the rollers in place. TheO pod works with several sizes of rollers, from 20mm to 60mm. By heating just one roller at a time, users benefit from heat on demand rather than having to heat numerous rollers at once. TheO is 7 times more ecofriendly than traditional heated rollers as it uses 7 times less power. Recently, our sales director travelled to Manchester, to ensure that Emma Rigby, ex-Hollyoaks actress, had her hair styled for her 21st birthday celebrations using TheO. Here's an extract from our first newsletter:

HOLLYOAKS HOTTIE ROCKS THEO! Emma Rigby stuns onlookers, and steals the limelight, with a fabulous hair style created by TheO.

Ben Waring, our talented Sales Director, travelled to the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, with TheO, to ensure that Emma Rigby’s hair was styled into a dazzling look, one befitting her 21st birthday celebrations. Jessica Satherley, showbiz reporter for the Daily Mail, told Urban Icon: “Emma looked incredibly sexy, this was a great, youthful and fun way for her to wear her hair.” Emma, former Hollyoaks actress (playing Hannah Ashworth), proceeded to show off her spectacular new look as she partied with former co-stars.  She told Urban Icon: “Hair traumas need not happen with TheO - I love my new gadget which gives my hair body and bounce.”

TheO is becoming increasingly popular, particularly as the look it creates is so 'now'.

One of the salons we distribute to in Leicestershire, the elite Minarik salon, is run by Andrew Minarik. He recently used Cloud 9 straightening irons, which have a unique temperature control, and TheO, to style the Miss England finalists' hair. He - with his 25 strong stylists team - created a diverse range of stunning styles for the gorgeous girls. I asked Andrew what he thought of the products and how the event went. He told me: "The results were amazing, we were delighted it went so well. We used TheO, which is a truly fabulous product, to give amazing soft curls and waves to the finalists' hair."

Andrew was asked to be Head of Hair and Make Up for the Miss World finalists and is still out in China where the final is being filmed. He told me that TheO and the Cloud 9 straightening irons would be an absolutely essential part of his team's styling kit - he is relying on these products to style the gorgeous Miss World finalists.

Other celebrity stylists who love TheO include Zoe Vickers, freelance make-up artist and buyer for the Emmerdale make-up rooms. She enthused about TheO to me: "I've bought TheO for each of the 5 make-up stations on the Emmerdale set. The pods are quick and easy to use - in fact, they're brilliant and we love them! The actors and actresses are really pleased with the end results."

Look' magazine say TheO ' . . . gives salon-worthy bounce and body' and 'Hot rollers devotee, Nicola Roberts (of Girls Aloud) will love TheO'

Harpers Bazaar say " . . . the Cloud 9 Straightening Iron is 'Best Appliance' - all our hair straightening addicts consistently tell us that this is the best."

I started working part-time for Urban Icon a short while ago, and am not easily won over by claims for products, however - TheO really does seem to deliver on its promises and I have found myself agreeing with the Managing Director, Gavin Rae, about its potential to become a hair styling phenomenon to rival the success of GHD. Gavin is actually the son of GHD founders and can recall the early days of GHD, "We used to pack the orders in my mum's kitchen. Things rapidly changed and GHD went on to be hugely successful." He says: "It is rare that lightning strikes twice but I believe very strongly that we are about to see just that. Robert Powls, my step-father and co-founder of GHD has done it again, this time with rollers!"
TheO can be used at home to create a salon blow dry look - within minutes you can have this season's voluptuous, big hair look.
